Home-charging rewards can reduce EV ownership costs, but the best choice starts with the charger you already own. Compare eligible rewards, payout timing and the total cost of changing equipment—not just the highest advertised rate.
Reviewed October 16, 2026. Amounts are CAD. Rewards depend on eligible, recorded charging and programme terms; rates can change.
Is Switching Charging Rewards Plans Worth It?
Compare Pion Power, Grizzl-E, SWTCH, ChargeLab, DashSharing and Tesla Wall Connector by estimated reward accrual and hardware-cost recovery. Reference rates reviewed September 24, 2026; DashSharing added October 7, 2026; temporary promotions and the provisional Grizzl-E purchased-tier model are explained below.
Could you keep your current charger?
Check rewards options before paying for a replacement.
Use a verified effective rate for tiered accounts over your selected period. Include new connection fees or other costs, not the charger’s original price. Rewards cannot be claimed twice for the same charging.
Select whether you already have a charger to start.
About this check
Eligibility reviewed October 7, 2026. A listing is a route to check, not approval for your account. Unlisted equipment is not automatically ineligible. Programme terms, connection method and purchase source can matter. This estimates accrued value, not cash already paid, and assumes equal electricity costs and eligible charging volume. Confirm any exit fees or outstanding deposit with your current provider.
Canada-wide base schedules, local electricity costs: Pion and ChargeLab explicitly publish the same applicable reward rate across Canada. SWTCH and Grizzl-E publish Canadian plan/tier schedules without a province-specific base-rate table; individual enrolment and charger eligibility still apply. This comparison excludes electricity, so choosing a province would not change its base reward calculation. Local electricity prices, installation costs, rebates and special promotions can change your actual outcome. SWTCH’s CAA Atlantic member promotion is separate and is not included.
The keep-versus-switch result uses your confirmed existing-charger scenario above. Purchase prices already paid are excluded. Replacement plans start at enrolment; future rates and payout timing can change.
Adjust your additional costs (CAD)
Start with the charger you already own. Set hardware and shipping to zero for eligible equipment you are keeping; do not enter its original purchase price. Deposits remain fixed. Add new installation, permits, adapters and tax for each option below. These are budgets, not current quotes.
Pion’s October–December 2026 offer: From October 1 to December 31, 2026, eligible Canadian charging after 5,000 cumulative eligible kWh can earn 16¢/kWh. Earlier eligible charging can count toward the threshold but is not repriced; points are not kWh. This temporary offer is excluded from the 10¢ base scenario below. The table keeps long-term base scenarios separate from temporary offers; compare your eligible charging volume, equipment costs and payout conditions. For example, 1,000 qualifying kWh during the offer earns $160 rather than $100 at 10¢—an extra $60 before electricity costs. Check Pion’s eligibility and offer terms.
Grizzl-E Premium remains provisional: The main Premium chart starts at 5¢/kWh and reaches 10¢ at 25,000 kWh; the general terms and FAQ show 10¢ at 35,000 kWh with a Level 3 conversion start. This calculator retains a provisional 5¢ floor and common thresholds pending clarification. Its Premium result is provisional; rows stay in a fixed order and do not declare a winner.
Grizzl-E’s advertised up to 15¢ includes a conditional bonus: The potential extra 5¢/kWh applies to eligible Premium home charging during the October 1, 2026–September 30, 2027 campaign. Unpurchased Essential and commercial chargers are excluded. It is not earned before vesting and requires eligible recorded sessions plus active membership on the vesting date. The main page advertises payout access on October 1, 2027; confirm the transfer date under the terms. This bonus is excluded from every table, graph and break-even result below.
| Plan | Illustrative outlay | Reward | Accrual break-even | Net reward value / advantage over keeping |

Rewards use the reference rates reviewed September 24, 2026; multi-year results hold those rates constant as a scenario, not a forecast. Net reward value subtracts entered hardware, shipping and additional costs and returns eligible deposits once. The advantage over keeping also subtracts the rewards available from your existing setup. Electricity and payout delays are excluded. Enter installation, tax and other new costs yourself; zero means you have entered no additional cost. It is not cash received or total ownership profit. Grizzl-E’s unvested Thanksgiving Bonus and other promotional/referral bonuses are excluded.

Compare with CAA’s observed charging costs
CAA’s September 2026 test measured Canadian dollars per 100 displayed kilometres added. This is not a home-charging tariff, cost to drive 100 km, or guaranteed result.
Select a vehicle to see its observed cost and driving consumption.
Your calculator estimate still uses its own inputs. This reference does not overwrite your rates, vehicle selection or results.
The cost column reflects a particular charging session and displayed range. Battery levels were not uniformly ideal for maximum speed. Pricing and test conditions differed from everyday home charging. Use the separate observed consumption only as context, not a universal vehicle rating.
CAA’s original results and limitationsCompare the Base Rewards
| Programme | Eligible charging rewards | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| DashSharing | 3¢/kWh for the first 1,500 kWh, then 11¢ | Deposit refund at the milestone; subsequent earnings paid in $100 increments |
| Pion Power GreenMiles | 10¢/kWh in verified points | Annual redemption; 1,000 points = $100, with smaller balances carried forward |
| ChargeLab | 10¢/kWh | Quarterly gift-card value; balances below $5 are forfeited rather than carried forward |
| SWTCH | Deposit plan: 3¢ for the first 1,500 kWh, then 11¢; purchase plan: 11¢ | Deposit return is separate from rewards; $100 payout threshold |
| Grizzl-E Club | Supplied chargers start at 3¢; purchased-tier model remains provisional | Confirm your enrolment tier, ownership terms and withdrawal rules before comparing |
| Tesla Wall Connector | No rewards assumed in this calculator | Check any separate programme’s exact-model eligibility independently |
These are Canadian programme scenarios, not approval for every address or charger. Your province affects electricity costs and local incentives. Do not count rewards until the operator confirms your equipment and account are eligible.
Start With DashSharing, Then Compare Hardware
Explore DashSharing with code TESLADDICT for the TeslAddict deposit offer; check the discount shown at checkout and whether it combines with current promotions. Compare its Standard 40A and hardwired Ultra 48A options in Gear. Budget separately for shipping, tax and installation.
| Canadian Gear option | Why compare it? |
|---|---|
| DashSharing Standard 40A | Connected home charging with a deposit-based rewards programme |
| DashSharing Ultra 48A | Hardwired option; confirm the connector and your vehicle’s AC limit |
| Pion Power Flex-AC Elite | Another hardware option for eligible GreenMiles charging |
| Autel AC Lite 40A / AC Elite 50A | Plug-in or hardwired J1772 options; confirm programme eligibility separately and use a compatible adapter for NACS vehicles |
A purchase link does not establish rewards eligibility. Have your installer confirm the circuit, connector and installation cost before ordering.
Keep Temporary Offers Separate
DashSharing deposit promotions, Pion’s limited-time higher rate, ChargeLab loyalty bonuses and Grizzl-E’s conditional bonus can improve an eligible account’s return. They have different deadlines, charging thresholds and payout conditions, so the calculator excludes them from its long-term base comparison.
Grizzl-E’s published Premium tier progression remains inconsistent across its chart and general schedule. Treat the calculator’s purchased-tier result as provisional. A bonus that has not vested is not available cash.
Check Payouts and Commitments
Points, gift cards and withdrawable cash are different benefits. Check the minimum payout, payment window, continued-connection requirements and any ownership or return obligations. A refundable deposit returns your own money; it is not charging income.
ChargeLab requires an eligible single-family residential setup and reserves the same charger’s carbon-credit claims for the calendar year, including after you leave. Check exclusivity before switching providers; the same charging data cannot simply earn from multiple programmes.
Use Your Existing Charger as the Baseline
- Enter your actual home-charging energy and confirmed current rewards.
- For equipment you are keeping, exclude its original purchase price. For a replacement, enter hardware, shipping, installation, tax and other new costs.
- Compare additional rewards against that extra cost. Read accrued value separately from when a payment becomes available.
Keep reliable hardware if the added rewards do not justify replacement. Use our Canadian charging-cost calculator to compare electricity costs, then choose a charger and programme that fit your home and confirmed eligibility.
