Tesla’s Wiper Service Mode moves the blades to an accessible position on the windshield. It does not lift the arms away from the glass or lock them upright.
Move the wipers into position
- Park the vehicle and turn the wipers off.
- Open Controls → Service → Wiper Service Mode.
- Lift an arm only a short distance—just enough to reach the blade. Support it while cleaning; do not force it beyond its intended travel.
- Lower it gently onto the glass before turning service mode off.
These steps follow Tesla’s Model Y wiper instructions. Check the manual for your exact model. Wiper arms do not lock in the raised position, and letting one snap against the windshield can damage the glass.
Clean before replacing
Use washer fluid or a non-abrasive cleaner approved for automotive glass and rubber. Inspect the blade for cracking or damage; replace an ineffective blade with the correct fitting rather than forcing the arm farther away from the screen.
Use a clean, soft cloth with a suitable cleaner for the glass and blade. Keep grit off the cloth and follow the blade manufacturer’s care instructions.
For broader cabin care, compare the Fanttik mini vacuum and Model 3 / Model Y folding windshield sunshade. The vacuum is for cabin debris; remove the sunshade fully before driving. Neither is needed to activate Wiper Service Mode.
This is a normal owner control, separate from the broader diagnostic tools covered in our Tesla Service Mode guide.
